WILLS & CODICILS NOTARIZATION SERVICES
At Corman Park Notaries, we provide notarization and certified-true-copy services for wills and codicils in Saskatchewan. While the execution of a will itself usually involves two independent witnesses rather than a notary, certified copies of wills, codicils, and probate documents are often required by foreign courts, financial institutions, and land registries. Our notary public authenticates signatures, verifies identities, and issues notarial certificates that confirm your testamentary documents are genuine and complete.
WHAT ARE WILLS & CODICILS?
- Will: A legal document that directs how an individual’s estate is distributed after death and names an executor.
- Codicil: A supplementary document that amends, adds to, or revokes specific provisions in an existing will without rewriting the entire instrument.
Both documents must comply with The Wills Act, 1996 (Saskatchewan), which requires the testator to sign in the presence of two adult witnesses. When copies are submitted to institutions outside of Saskatchewan, notarization provides an added layer of authenticity.
WHEN IS NOTARIZATION REQUIRED?
- Submitting a certified copy of a will to an out‑of‑province or international court.
- Transferring foreign or out‑of‑province real estate held by the estate.
- Presenting a will or codicil to financial institutions that request a notary seal.
- Applying for probate in another jurisdiction requiring a notarial certificate.
- Attaching an English translation to a foreign-language will (notarized translator’s declaration).
